Connection
and control options for mains voltage lights
Mains voltage options

All the mains voltage lights above (Single HaloLight, Twin HaloLight,
Mains voltage LEDlight) can be plugged directly into the mains sockets
in the venue, and dimmed by dimming the mains supply. Opera stand lights
are fitted as standard with coiled cable reaching to floor level, and
3m of further straight cable terminating in a standard mains plug.
Clip-on lights (
see
lights) are fitted with a total of 3m of straight
cable terminating in a standard mains plug.
IEC Daisychaining System

As an option, any of these lights can be ordered with the IEC daisychaining
system. It connects adjacent stands using standard IEC extension cables.
The IEC junction box locks rigidly to the base of the stem, and is
easily removed when the stand is required without the light. The hook
at the base of the stem of the Opera stand secures the cables thereby
ensuring that the plugs cannot be accidentally pulled out by tripping
over the flex.
Connection and control options for 24V LEDlights
The 24V LEDlight has the following advantages over the mains version:
- Inherent safety of a low voltage supply
- The great flexibility offered by a mixture of different power supplies;
for example using battery power for outdoor events, and connected supply
for indoor events
- It is possible to control each stand individually by DMX without
having to have different electrical circuits
The 24V LEDlight is fitted with a coiled cable descending to ground level
where it terminates in a 3 pin XLR plug. All of the following options
are available for connecting and controlling 24V LEDlights.
1) If you already have a 24V supply
Direct connection to 24V supply

- Brightness of the light can be controlled by dimming the 24V supply.
- Alternatively the DMX Radio Control System can be fitted to each
light giving independent dimming control of every light.
Connection to 24V supply through XLR Daisychaining System
- An XLR junction box locks rigidly to the base of the stem, and
incorporates 2m of cable with an XLR plug for connection to the adjacent
stand
- Compatible with radio control (see
DMX page) giving independent
dimming control of every light.
2) If you already have a combined 24V supply with DMX on 4 pin XLR connectors
Connection to 24V supply through XLR Daisychaining System
with DMX control

- An XLR junction box locks rigidly to the base of the stem, and
incorporates a dimmer which is controlled by DMX signals transmitted
along the same 4 wire cable as the 24V supply
- The junction box has a male and a female XLR socket so that separate
extension cables can be used
- Each light can be controlled individually, or as a member of a
group
- Each light is set up using the RDM protocol.
3) If you want to connect to the mains supply
Plug top mains adaptor

- A low cost solution for small numbers of stands
- One adaptor is required for each light. Each adaptor plugs straight
into the mains supply. and comes with 2m of cable terminating in an XLR
socket.
- Cannot be dimmed by dimming the mains supply.
- Compatible with radio control (see
Radio DMX page) giving independent
dimming control of every light.
PSU and distribution box

- A tidier and more rugged solution than the plug top adaptor.
- The PSU connects to the mains supply by an IEC cable.
- Up to 6 LEDlights can be plugged into the PSU using XLR extension
leads.
- Cannot be dimmed by dimming the mains supply A dimmable version
is controlled by DMX in which case all lights attached to one PSU are
dimmed together.
- The non dimmable version is compatible with radio control (see
Radio DMX page) giving independent dimming control of every light.
PSU for use with XLR Daisychaining System

- The neatest and most rugged mains powered solution.
- The PSU connects to the mains supply by an IEC cable.
- Up to 17 daisychained LEDlights can be plugged into one PSU.
- Cannot be dimmed by dimming the mains supply A dimmable version
is controlled by DMX in which case all lights attached to one PSU are
dimmed together.
- The non dimmable version is compatible with radio control (see
Radio DMX page) giving independent dimming control of every light.
Dimmable power supply with IDS

- Can be dimmed by dimming the mains supply exactly like an incandescent
lamp.
- One PSU required for each light
- The PSU locks quickly and rigidly to the stem of the stand
- IEC inlet and outlet sockets enable each stand to be connected
to the previous one in a daisychain
- Pigtail ensures that the power cords leave the stand at ground
level, and that pulling on a power cord cannot pull it from its socket.

4) If you want cordless operation
Rechargeable batteries
- Choice of removable battery packs giving 5 or 9 hours of continuous
light between charges. Higher capacity batteries can be made to order
- The NiMh batteries have higher capacity and longer life than NiCad
batteries.
- Batteries can be recharged using the single fast charger, or the
charging station which charges up to 10 batteries simultaneously.
- Batteries are recharged in less than half the time for which they
have been used.
- Compatible with radio control (see
Radio DMX page) giving independent
control of every light.
