‘Life as a Musician in 2020’

Life as a Musician 2020 is a series of interviews with our RATstands Artists on the challenges that they have faced this year due to the pandemic. They talk about their struggles and how they have had to adapted to post-pandemic life. They also talk about the positives that have come from this year and what their goals are for 2021.

Eljo is passionate about all forms of music making and collaboration, with a particular interest in contemporary classical music. She regularly collaborates with and performs the works of living composers and has given several premieres of new works, including Australian composer Cat Hope’s opera, Speechless, as part of the 2019 Perth International Arts Festival. At the Queensland Conservatorium, Eljo has performed with the Women of Noise group and regularly collaborates with her wind quintet as well as with her new music ensemble, the Avant-Garde Strip Club.

In addition to her performing commitments, Eljo is an aspiring music journalist and freelance visual artist. When she isn’t practicing, performing or collaborating across these disciplines, Eljo also runs an online teaching studio for clarinettists of all ages and abilities.
